Prints in Space: Prawat Laucharoen (2008)

Prints in Space: A Special Printmaking Event with Prawat Laucharoen

In the summer of 2008, the MPC Printmakers collaborated with the Monterey Peninsula College Art Gallery and the MPC Art Department to bring internationally known artist Prawat Laucharoen to Monterey.

Prawat taught an exciting Printstallation class, encouraging and cajoling his students into pushing the physical and conceptual boundaries of printmaking. In one week, the workshop participants created large scale artworks, grounded in printmaking practice, while exploring issues of three dimensional space and site specific installation.

With the help of Melissa Pickford, MPC Gallery Director, the works were installed in and around the MPC Art Gallery. The resulting show “Expansions”, remained in the gallery for six weeks, truly expanding the artistic experience of students, faculty and members of the extended MPC community.

The MPC Printmakers hosted Prawat in style, with slide shows, parties and a printed catalog chronicling the experience. Niku Kashef, Los Angeles artist and workshop participant, designed the catalog. A sampling of the publication is posted here, on the MPC Printmakers website.
